Simplicity
How
do we regain the wonderful simplicity of our childhood?
It should be impossible for us to lose the simple joy of the childlike
state! As young children, many of us experienced wonder and joy
as we played our way through the early years. Days were filled
with the promise of exciting new things. Simple pleasures, enthusiasm,
questioning were the order of the day. Here is a dialogue on Simplicity
by the spirit Ramadahn, as channelled through the medium Ursula
Roberts. It contains many home truths as observed from outside
the realm of our everyday life on earth.
"In ancient times, The Master Teacher once said to His students:
except you become as a little child you cannot enter into the
kingdoms of heaven. Again I remind you of this timeless truth.
The kingdom of heaven may mean to you that state which follows
the completion of your earthly life and your entry into the great
life beyond death. If this is your understanding of the kingdom
of heaven, you will need purity, simplicity and love, as well
as that strong crutch created by prayer, to guide you on your
way in the planes of spirit experience.
But if you understand the kingdom of heaven to mean also that
ecstasy and joy, which is a person's birthright, even when they
are still using the mortal body and living amid the multiplicity
of joyful forces which act within the earthly plane, then you
will still need simplicity, purity, prayer and love! These qualities
will help you to retain, within your inner soul, that sanctuary
of peace, that open doorway by which the light and the beauty
may flow from the high heavens of inspiration, through into the
places of the earth, bringing joy and blessing to you and to those
you meet day by day.
You may say to me "but how may we retain and regain the childlike
simplicity of our early years?'
My answer is "it should be impossible for you to lose
the simple joy of the childlike soul! If you were only taught
to look upon everything within your earth as holding in it a secret
of the divine nature of the eternal Spirit, then each thing would
bring you its own message and its own most glorious revelation.
Isnt it true that the child takes every experience simply
as a chance to wonder at the world and learn? Doesnt the
child accept each day as filled promise? Doesnt the child
look on each springtime and each summer, on each coming and going
of the tide, and of each cycle of day and night, as something
new, glorious and beautiful?
"And you who have grown old in the ways of the earth
dont you sometimes envy the enthusiasm of youth, and love
to see the simple joyfulness of children? Dont you long
to regain the sense of wonder which the child possesses? I say
to you, it is this quality of wonder which is needed if you are
to regain and to retain your sense of the kingdoms of heaven."
Today men and women are developing their intellect as never before.
They are exploring the farthest reaches of the world and entering
into an understanding of the sciences. So youd expect that
their sense of wonder would increase as their telescopes explore
the marvels of outer space and their microscopes explore the phenomena
of the infinitely small, created by the efforts of the Infinite
Intelligence which some of you call 'God'.
Instead, many human beings have drawn the curtains of indifference
across their inward soul and they cannot see the Master Creators
light which shines on everything with an infinite glory and a
most wonderful pattern of infinite good.
I say to you that the doorway to the kingdom of heaven is the
doorway of simplicity. It is through simplicity that you enter
into wonder, and through wonder that you enter into worship. Through
worship you throw wide open the doors and the windows of the soul
so that the glory of the spirit may shine into
you and through
you, and out
of you into the outward places of this your mortal and finite
world.
So how do you keep the door of the soul wide open through simplicity?
Especially, you may ask, as you are continually en-compassed by
a multiplicity of duties which engage your attention in the myriad
small affairs concerning the maintenance of life here in your
world? 'Ah'. you may say to me 'you of the spirit from your exalted
state, you dont understand how it is in the earthly realm
where we have to earn our daily living and work hard to put food
on the table, and where we have to be engaged in a multitude of
things which we call the duties of the daily life.'
I can tell you that the duties of
your daily life should be seen as the steps which lead to the
doorway of simplicity. When your duties
are lovingly undertaken and fulfilled with the quiet spirit of
dedication then, by slow and diligent preparation, you build the
steps which day by day lead to the open doorway of simplicity.
Out of the open doorway of your simple wonder and worship, a purity
of light and a glory of understanding flow through. These help
you to fulfil your duties so that, even in the most mundane occupation
of your everyday existence, the golden gleam of spiritual illumination
can come through.
I say to you that while you are on the earth, you are of the earth.
But you are also of the spirit. As such, you should be an open
doorway and an open window so that the glory and the wonder of
your interior revelation may shine out in light and in truth to
enhance your daily duties with a golden aura of gentle dedication,
and with a simple beauty of quiet and of loving performance. This
is how you create, within the outer life, the sanctuary of the
soul.
To this simplicity and this dedication you must also bring the
spirit of purity - purity of comprehension. The simple pure knowledge
that you are a child of God and this understanding is all that
you need to know.
I would say that no soul can faithfully fulfil the duties of the
daily life without engaging in prayer. For if those duties are
truly and most perfectly fulfilled in love, then prayer becomes
born of the concern to do well for others. Deep within yourselves
you pray for strength to help in this fulfilment, and sometimes
you ask for blessings for those whom you meet day by day, and
sometimes you invoke the prayer of worship for the glory and the
beauty of the world around you.
So simple the way! So beautiful the way! Yet how hard people of
the earth find to follow it! How complicated the philosophies
- how complicated the explanations of the relationship between
man and his God, and how forgetful man becomes of the essential
teaching of the Master Teacher.
'Except ye become as a little child, ye cannot enter into the
Kingdoms of Heaven' !
The Kingdoms of Heaven are the kingdoms of simple joy and simple
beauty, in which you can grow the wings of worship and come into
peace, deeper and deeper peace and love - the glory of a love
which surpasses the loves you have known in your mortal years..
It is also the same when you come to the end of your earthly life
in death. We do not say to the new-born soul, when it has passed
the experience of death: 'Who were you in the earthly life?' We
do not say: 'Were you a king or were you a servant?' We do not
say: 'What was your wealth and what was your status?' We do not
say to any soul: 'What did you do, and what did men say of you?'
We look on the new-born soul to see if there is within it the
faint gentle pink of simple love and the radiance of kindliness.
Whether there is the purity of simplicity and whether the soul
has formed a chain of prayer. This can be seen as a wonderful
rope of translucent pearls hanging on the neck of the new-born
one and linking them to the souls in the spirit world whom they
have loved, or to the child on the earth for whom they have prayed.
If we see these things, then we know that this is a true soul
who may come swiftly into the pure places of the heavenly experience.
But if we do not see these things and the new-born soul tries
to persuade us of their earthly importance by their much speaking
about all that they did on earth, then we know that they must
sojourn for a while in the greyer places of the spirit before
they can come into the realms of purity and simplicity and joy.
So, my beloved ones, each of you should adorn yourself with the
chain of pure prayer for those whom you love. Create around yourself
purity and simplicity, revel in the marvel and the beauty of the
world which surrounds you. Lovingly and faithfully and quietly
perform your daily duties so that you may come forever nearer
to the Kingdoms of Heaven. "
A simple prayer from Ramadahn
for all of us
Simplify your seeking, your praying and your living. Become strong
in the inner citadel of the soul. By praying often and loving
much, create a great light both within and without you.
Where there is prayer and love within the human heart, then a
pure flame of light shines in the centre of the being. This light
spreads and glows and sheds its glory far and wide within and
around you. And the powers of darkness are annihilated by power
of the light.
Where love and prayer dwell together, then is peace added to peace,
light added to light, beauty added to beauty, experience deepening
other experience, until the soul enters into the comprehension
of its god.
