3: if you want to set a target, create changes, action choices
Your
I choose to spend more time list is probably the basis for
your action plan. Choose your overall Target statement and write it across
the top of a new sheet in your notebook. It could be simply to spend more
time on the leisure area of your life.
Next divide your page vertically down the middle into two columns. The
left hand column should be labelled Create Changes and the right hand
column should be labelled Action Choices.
What changes do you want to make in your leisure, social and alone time?
It may be that these changes involve clawing back some time from another
area of your life or even from another leisure activity that currently
takes up a disproportionate amount of your time. Please try to be practical
here. With all the best will in the world, without a practical plan you
will probably revert to your former ways!
So your Action Choices must involve stating the time and place that these
activities are going to command.
In order to do this, you may need to put in a spot of research. For example,
if you want to increase the amount of time you spend entertaining or in
the garden, then you can control this yourself. If, however, you want
to visit a gallery once a month, go to evening classes or travel to outer
Mongolia, then these activities are dependent on an outside source.
Take pleasure in the process of getting information about things you might
do in your leisure time. Just reading the brochures and leaflets can be
an eye opener in itself. Your local library, leisure centre or even the
notice board in your local shop, is a good place to start; so is talking
to your friends and family. Doing something entirely new is a fantastic
way to develop yourself and meet other pioneering spirits!
