an intuitive approach

Cosmic-cherry encourages you to practice the Feng Shui that ‘feels right for you’. In this respect we need to pay attention to those aspects of our surroundings that make us feel good, and rid ourselves of the things that upset us.

All this sounds rather obvious but you would not be surprised to learn that people often don’t question the extent to which their surroundings influence them - for good and for bad. For instance, the wall colours may be unsuitable. They may have accumulated furniture over the years that they don’t actually like very much, but at the time it made a fashion statement about themselves. Then there are the objects and pictures etc. which may have been emotionally precious at one time but are now merely clutter or are reminiscent of past relationships or old habits.

So many things to think about! So many subtle influences! We need to find out what is supporting us, what has got to go, and what constructive changes we can make.

We can, of course, use the guidance from the Feng Shui teacher or teachers of our choice and study the various books that are on offer. My personal favourite is ‘Feng Shui for the Soul’ by Denise Linn, published by Rider ISBN 0 7126 7081 5.

I also recommend that Feng Shui is not to be considered a ‘quick-fix’ option to life’s problems. Two years ago, I was relaxing in the bar of a country house hotel after a day’s seminar. A fellow guest who knew I was a Feng Shui practitioner, asked me what Feng Shui changes she could make in her home to get rid of her, and her husband’s, health problems.

Responding to the questioner, who was carrying a substantial amount of excess weight and was smoking a cigarette at the time, I said " You could learn to respect your body and feed it good wholesome foods and respect your lungs by giving them good clean air".

"OK" said the questioner, "but I’ve heard about the eight enrichments and the compass directions and I want to know what arrangements of objects is good Feng Shui". I smiled and said "Get to know your body and look after it well and the same with your lungs". After an embarrassing pause, I smiled and took my leave. This incident illustrates only too well the ‘instant gratification – do it for me’ society that we have become part of. Feng Shui will only help you if you are prepared to help yourself as well!

So if you are interested in making changes for your long-term welfare, by all means use Feng Shui as a catalyst for change, but make sure you are not hindering your Feng Shui by poor quality ‘person actions’.

As for your own intuition – trust it! With a little practice, you will automatically ‘feel’ when an environment is supportive and when it is hindering. And, if things aren’t quite right, you’ll probably know in your heart of hearts what it is that needs changing.
